That’s why we opened HMS School — a comprehensive, in-house training program on electrical heat tracing (EHT) and industrial insulation solutions, taught by experienced professionals in maintenance, engineering, and construction at our Sherwood Park facility.
HMS School | Professional Development and Certification in Industrial Heat Management
Through HMS School, employees earn proficiency in the installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical heat trace (EHT) systems and industrial insulation from multiple manufacturers.
Each module concludes with written and practical examinations, and testing records are fully auditable by our clients, ensuring transparency, accountability, and high-quality standards.

Heat Management Specialist Level 1
Introduction to Heat Management Systems
After completing Level 1 training at HMS School, employees will be able to:
- Fully understand MSCP safety principles for industrial heat management
- Recognize how construction and maintenance teams collaborate on heat trace projects
- Identify hazards when working around electrical heat trace systems
- Understand different types of EHT and industrial insulation used in Alberta oil and gas, energy and industrial facilities
- Identify tools, materials, and best practices for building heat management systems

Heat Management Specialist Level 2
Installation of Heat Management Systems
Upon completing Level 2 at HMS School, employees can:
- Install EHT and insulation systems according to MSCP’s strict quality and production standards
- Safely use electrical testing equipment for heat trace and insulation installation
- Detect and correct improperly installed EHT or insulation systems

Heat Management Specialist Level 3
Programming, Troubleshooting, and Maintenance of EHT
Level 3 training equips employees with the skills to:
- Program electrical heat trace circuits following setpoint schedules
- Identify communication protocols used in industrial heat management systems
- Troubleshoot alarms, diagnose issues, and repair EHT and insulation systems
- Work confidently with heat trace controllers and software used in Alberta’s industrial facilities

Heat Management Specialist Level 4
Design and Engineering of Heat Management Systems
Level 4 training prepares employees to:
- Complete field sketches and detailed designs for heat trace and insulation systems
- Calculate heat loss, energy requirements, and system heat-up times
- Determine optimal placement of RTDs and understand control modes affecting system operation
- Design and install comprehensive heat management systems for large industrial equipment across Alberta
