Learning Together in Edmonton: Heat Trace, Industrial Insulation & Rope Access Demonstration
In Edmonton, we joined the CAREERS and Braided Journeys Capital Learning Circle, an event organized to support First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth as they consider careers in trades. We didn’t just talk about our work, we showed it. Students got to see live demonstrations of rope access, industrial insulation installation, and electrical engineering.
But it wasn’t just about demonstrations. The real moments came in the conversations: the honest questions, the curiosity, the excitement about what’s possible. It reminded us that being in the trades isn’t just about skill, it’s about passion, problem-solving, and community.
Visiting MSCP Office and Shop in Sherwood Park, Alberta
When the students asked, “Can we come see how it all works?” the answer was simple: Yes! The very next day, they joined us in our Sherwood Park office for a full-system immersion with MSCP, a leading insulation contractor and heat trace company in Alberta.
Over three hours, they explored:
- Leadership & project systems
- Rope access services
- Electrical heat tracing
- Industrial insulation fabrication
- Custom electrical and control panels manufacturing
- HMS schooling
It wasn’t just a tour. We showed how all the pieces connect. How removing silos strengthens systems. How every discipline relies on the others. And most importantly, how curiosity and engagement fuel learning and improvement. By seeing industrial insulation installation, heat tracing, and rope access in action, the students gained real insight into the trades, while our team was inspired by their questions and energy.
These experiences reminded us why sharing knowledge matters and how teaching the next generation of skilled tradespeople strengthens the industry as a whole.
Behind the Scenes of Heat trace, Industrial Insulation & Rope Access at Kearl Lake
Later, we took another group of students to Kearl Lake for a hands-on experience with Imperial Oil. The day began in our office at Kearl Lake with an open discussion about careers in trades, then we headed to the site. There, they had an amazing opportunity to see an MSCP electrician at work, combining rope access techniques with electrical heat trace and industrial insulation skills to perform complex tasks safely at height.
Seeing these students’ eyes light up as they witnessed real trades in action, it’s the kind of moment that stays with you. One trade, three disciplines, and a whole team working in harmony. That’s what we do at MSCP: bring together different skills to solve problems, safely and efficiently.
