As the current year winds down, we’d like to share and highlight some of our most significant wins and accomplishments that will shape our industry for the future.
Award Of 5-Year Heat Management Maintenance Contract
As you might have seen on our blog or social media stream, we were recently awarded a 5-year heat management contract with a major Canadian oil sands facility. This well-respected company produces 220K barrels of product per day and is a proven leader in applying technology and innovation to responsibly develop Canada’s energy resources.
MSCP won this contract thanks to our successful creation of a new Heat Management Industry designed to take full ownership and keep production flowing even under the harshest conditions, minimizing frozen pipes that lead to downtime or releases into the environment.
Our team will manage the company’s entire heat management system, including engineering, heat tracing, insulation, rope access, and a vendor-managed inventory of all the associated materials. To help fulfill this and future large-scale projects, we partnered with a leading heat trace manufacturer based out of Houston.

Launch of Process Safety Program
Remember that old saying about an ounce of prevention? We put that old axiom to work for our clients through our new Process Safety Program. This program helps avert freeze events in cold weather that can trigger severe system failure, costly shutdown, and preventable repair.
MSCP’s Heat Management Deficiency Reports are at the heart of this process. These reports are created in the field during the summer when insulation and heat tracing are afterthoughts. They detail which heat trace circuits were de-energized and removed over the summer and where insulation and blankets were pulled off to access equipment.
During the season change from fall to winter, oil and gas facilities can use the reports to ensure that insulation and heat trace components removed during the summer projects can be reinstalled and energized for the coming cold season.
Thanks to our proactive approach to heat trace and insulation removal and deactivation tracking, we’ve helped avert over 100 potential freeze events, saving our customers tens of thousands of dollars in avoidable downtime which is a major accomplishment.

Expansion Of Local Manufacturing Program
MSCP is proud to manufacture our critical heat trace and insulation material in Canada. By ordering from Canadian manufacturers, you help protect Canadian jobs, add to the health and prosperity of local communities, and invest in our country’s manufacturing future.
Using domestic suppliers helps protect the supply chain of heat management parts and equipment that keep Canadian oil and gas facilities running smoothly.
In 2022, we expanded our local manufacturing program to include more essential heat trace and insulation components, saving our customers thousands of dollars on locally-made custom insulation blankets, tube bundles, and MI cables.
As a result, we cut the material’s average travel time from the warehouse to the customer by as much as 40 percent, helping them complete projects faster.
Here are some more critical reasons to order your heat trace and insulation equipment domestically!
Exclusive Vendor-Managed Inventory
Time is always of the essence when it comes to replacing old, worn-out, or broken parts before they trigger critical issues or plant downtime. You need to know what to order so you can get it to your facility on time.
Our answer to this dilemma is our Material Management & Warehousing solution, which provides domestic itemizing and storage of buffer heat trace and insulation materials.
We manage over 2,000 unique materials for clients in our headquarters in Sherwood Park, Alberta, and our Eastern Canada shop in Listowel, Ontario, giving our customers complete domestic coverage no matter where they’re located.
Our approach to materials management has resulted in a 20 percent average client cost savings from just-in-time material and on-demand billing.
In addition, we’re the only company offering heat management materials along with the engineering and technical services to design, create, audit, maintain, and commission your heat management system which is quite an accomplishment. MSCP is your one-stop shop for all your heat trace and insulation requirements.

Integration of Digital Work Packages
Canadian oil and gas facilities have traditionally needed more transparency and accountability from their paper-based maintenance reports. Paper-based reports often leave operators with partial, incomplete, or outdated information that requires additional work to verify.
We replaced the classic paper-based work documentation and verification approach with our exclusive Digital Work Packages. These tech-based tools are transforming what oil and gas facilities expect from their maintenance providers by increasing real-time transparency.
Each package contains a step-by-step guide to completing every task, associated drawings, a Bill of Materials listing items required to complete the job, and all associated Safety and Quality documents. Detailed information and high-resolution photos are captured to show progress, where needed, on a daily basis.
Our Digital Work Packages offer the most comprehensive way to ensure quality assurance and low variance at every step while performing the job.
